A No-Kill Shelter Saving Lives Everyday

Animal Surrender Policy

As a no-kill shelter, the Sequoia Humane Society can only take in as many animals as we currently have space for, and animals that will be a good fit for our shelter environment. We accept owner-surrendered animals.  By law, all lost or stray animals must go to the county impound facility (Miranda's Rescue for Fortuna and Rio Dell - Humboldt County Sheriff's Animal Shelter for all other Humboldt County areas). We would be happy to take some information about your pet and place them on our waiting list. As other animals are adopted and space becomes available we will call you to schedule an intake appointment for a temperament and health evaluation.

There is a surrender fee -- $50 for cats and $75 for dogs under 50Lbs, if over it will be $125 and an additional $25 for feline leukemia and feline AIDS (cats) or heartworm (dogs).  If you are able to provide proof of a negative test result from a veterinarian dated within the past 30 day we will waive the health test fees.

If your animal is neutered/spayed, we can also put a picture and description of your pet on our 'private adoptions' webpage to help you re-home them directly.
