A No-Kill Shelter Saving Lives Everyday

Animal Surrender Policy

As a no-kill shelter, the Sequoia Humane Society can only take in as many animals as we currently have space for, and animals that will be a good fit for our shelter environment. We accept owner-surrendered animals with proof of ownership.  By law, all lost or stray animals must go to the county impound facility (Miranda's Rescue for Fortuna and Rio Dell - Humboldt County Sheriff's Animal Shelter for all other Humboldt County areas).

*We currently have a wait list* To begin the surrender process for your pet, please call (707) 442-1782 to complete a Surrender Application. If there is no available space in the shelter or in foster, your pet may be placed our Intake Waiting List. Once space becomes available, we will contact you to schedule an intake appointment to complete a temperament and health evaluation.

Fees

There is a suggested surrender fee -- $50 for cats and $100 for dogs -- to assist with the care of your pet while they await their future home. All pets will be required to complete a temperament and health screening prior to acceptance into the adoption program.

We ask that surrendering owners pay $25 testing fee and produce negative test results for the following:* **
