Spay/Neuter Assistance
Voucher Incentive Program
There is a pet overpopulation problem in Humboldt County, resulting in too many animals and not enough homes to place them in. However, we can prevent the birth of unwanted animals and work toward a day when there are no more homeless pets by spaying and neutering our own cats and dogs, as well as feral cats within our neighborhoods.
The Sequoia Humane Society offers financial assistance to low-income families with qualifying limited incomes for the spaying or neutering of their pets, and to feral cat caretakers.
How to Apply for Assistance
Qualifications are based on the applicant's monthly/yearly gross income and the number of persons living in a household unit. A sliding scale, similar to those used by social service agencies & PG&E, is used to determine eligibility for VIP assistance.
Applications may be made in person at the Sequoia Humane Society Pet Adoption Center. Applicants should bring proof of income* and photo ID. Co-payments are based on a sliding scale according to your income ($20-$55). Qualified applicants will receive a voucher good for a spay or neuter surgery at a participating veterinarian. It’s that easy!
*Source of income may include: employment (pay stub), social security, disability, unemployment, parents (bank statement), student aid, self-employed (tax records), etc.
*Medi-Cal recipients & individuals/families on public assistance require current acceptance letter stating eligibility. Copies of eligibility documents may be obtained at the Department of Social Services (929 Koster Street, Eureka, CA; Phone: 707-269-3590), or for Medi-Cal call 707-268-3471.
For More Information, Please Call (707) 442-1782
Funding for this program is provided by the Freeman Trust (through the Humboldt Area Foundation), SHS members and contributors, and proceeds of the Tailwaggers Thrift Shop.
