The Sequoia Humane Society (SHS) aims to help find permanent, loving homes for all adoptable animals. Due to space limitations, we cannot admit every animal looking for a new home into our shelter. We have therefore reserved a space on our website to help pet owners distribute information about animals they need to re-home. We also suggest that you sign up for the Friends for Life Animal Rescue "Matchmaker" program, and post fliers in vet offices, pet stores and around your neighborhood. If you are looking to rehome a pet, please send an e-mail to

I’m searching for a wonderful home to adopt my dog, Otto. My living condition has changed If he’s inside, he lets you know when it’s time for him to go out. He likes to “sing” instead of bark, especially when it’s feeding or walking time. He’s a great protector and only barks when he feels it’s necessary. He’s the perfect dog, but is frightened by loud sounds, like gunshots or lightning, and needs to be comforted when upset. I want him to have a home with plenty of space and loving owners who are home most of the time. Inquiries may call (505) 860-1336. (8/25/10)

Callie is a 1-yr old purebred (no papers) Australian shepherd, red merle with copper points and white trim, with one blue and one brown eye. She is spayed, healthy, vet checked, and her vaccinations are current.Callie's owner is elderly and recently experienced health complications. Callie and her brother were attached by dogs in early April, and although she is healing rapidly and well, her owner realizes that it is in Callie's best interest to find a new home/family that can spend quality time with her. A cat free home is preferred. Callie will benefit from some obedience basics, but is a fast and willing learner who is VERY eager to please. Callie is an enthusiastic, energetic, loyal and sweet young dog who has the potential to be an excellent companion. Free to good home that can provide the time, direction and attention she deserves. Serious inquiries only, please. Call 707-839-8123.
Moochie is a super loving kitty with a mellow demeanor. He's great with children. He's a bed kitty and is at his happiest having his belly rubbed under the covers, and spending time sitting in the window. I would love to find a fantastic, cuddly, dog-free family home for Moochie. Please, can you help? For serious inquiries, please call 707-839-5863.

She gets along with other dogs although she wants them to respect her. A home without kitties is best as she's intensely interested in pursuing them. She was taken from the Del Norte County Shelter in order to save her life, and she is in foster care in Eureka. Zora loves to go out on walks and explore. She is crate trained. Her hips are a bit stiff and she will need her teeth cleaned. Otherwise, she is in great health, perky and wanting to be part of leisurely activities. She is a perfect companion for people who are home a lot and who live a moderately active life. To meet Zora, contact Jean at 707-839-3148. Adoption application approval and fee will be required. Zora is up to date with routine shots, house trained and spayed.
K-9 Angels requests a modest adoption fee. If any of you is inclined to give this sweet, precious little girl a second chance at life, please contact Gail at 707-496-4589 or

My circumstances are such that in order to stay in my current living situation, I need to find a good home for all these wonderful pets. Please contact me at 707-986-9823 and ask for Marilyn or Lance. If not home, please leave a message and I'll call you back.
Curly is Sassy's sister but she doesn't look like it! She is 40 lbs, has short hair, and when she was born her tail was crooked -- it almost looks like it's been broken, but it hasn't, it's fine. She is good with other larger dogs but might not be trustworthy around little dogs as she pounces when she plays and doesn't seem to know her boundaries. She probably wouldn't hurt cats but would likely chase them. She is even more energetic than Sassy, she loves to play tetherball, she can jump high and needs a tall fence and some work learning to stay off people, as well as work on the leash. She is also microchipped and up to date on shots. I would love to see them go together just because it is hard enough for me to let them go. I think they would be fine, they just need someone who has more time for them than I can give. Please call or email Katey at 707-496-5289 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A collaborative effort between the Humboldt County Animal Services Shelter, BONES, the Sequoia Humane Society, Friends for Life, a generous, discount from the vet, as well as donations from the community, made it possible for Boomer to leave the shelter, get treatment for his leg, get neutered and get up to date on shots. When the vet tried to pin the leg, he found the injury was actually about three weeks old. Because of the age of the injury, there was not choice but to amputate Boomer's leg. Boomer has adjusted quite well to having only three legs to tool around on, and loves to play. He is still learning not to get tangled in his leash and fall over, but other than that he is a very fun loving puppy who is looking for a great home to spend the rest of his life in. Boomer is a neutered 5 month old male, who is up to date on shots. Boomer went to the pet fair at the Farm Store and met many dogs and people of all sizes and loved them all. He is a totally solid dog! Even when Boomer has been in pain, he continues to be very loving and forgiving - this very special boy needs an equally special home! and I love him very much and I want him to have a happy life. He’s neutered, micro-chipped, and has current rabies shots. His personality is unique, and everyone he meets compliments his great behavior, shiny coat, or mellow mood. He’s great on the leash and doesn’t run away if released.
t. She has been spayed and has had no health problems. She is very loving and likes to sit on laps and be combed. Her favorite toy is a stuffed hedgehog which she carries around and plays with. Her owner had Alzheimers and was in a care home for over a year before she passed away. I will be glad to pay for any vaccinations Pippi needs. For more information, please contact Pansy at 707-733-5170. (8/4/10)
Peaches needs a special person or couple to care for her. She does not do well with kids and likes the companionship of two people at most. She is very sweet, loving and attentive, likes to sleep with you, cuddle and be held, but only on her terms. She'll come to you but doesn't like to be picked up. Peaches has no front claws so will need to be an indoor cat. She is completely potty trained and is up to date on all her shots, etc.
ng dog. She is lookoing for a home and work as she would be most happy on a ranch, and has guard dog potential. She is loyal and protective and therefore is edge with strangers. She would not be a good dog for young kids. She generally gets along with other dogs (just ask about her at It's All About The Dogs in Eureka). She loves to fetch and is kennel and house trained.
Tassy is a
Pepper (black & white) and Abby (tan & white) are six year old females, half Pit Bull and half Blue Heeler, and both spayed. They are friendly, active, energetic and loyal girls who engage in rambunctious play together. They would be ideal companion(s) for a property owner, naturally attuned to their environment and intuitive to real threats to farm animals. Their sensitivity to other dogs varies from dog to dog. They were not raised with children.
Callie is a 1-yr old purebred (no papers) Australian shepherd, red merle with copper points and white trim, with one blue and one brown eye. She is spayed, healthy, vet checked, and her vaccinations are current.
Moochie is a black & white short haired kitty needing a new home. We think he might be close to 6 years old. He is fully vaccinated and neutered. We took him in when his previous owner moved, but he's terrified of dogs. Consequently he sometimes urinates on his bed although he is litter box proficient. The vet says the urination problem is due to stress, from our dogs.
Loki is a happy, athletic Newfoundland/Lab mix, 80 pounds, age 5+ years, and neutered. He is affectionate, loving and well trained. He sleeps and spends much of his time inside, but does spend long periods of time outdoors as well. He's been an only pet, seems to be good with children but has none in his present home, and probably would be best in a home without cats.
Zora has been characterized by her Del Norte County Shelter caretaker as "the sweetest dog there is!" She is medium sized and looking for a nice family to lavish love on her. We believe she is a Chow mix, about 7 years old. Stocky and short, she could trim down a bit and would weigh some 50 pounds at normal weight. Looking like a teddy bear, Zora is friendly, happy, easy going, quiet and gentle.
Chloe is a precious little 4 year old long haired Chihuahua mix. Chloe has special needs, resulting from a brutal kick in the back which she endured around New Years. She was rescued from an abusive home and signed over to K9-Angels and has been under the care of a veterinarian. Her prognosis is bright, she has been fitted with a little wheel-chair cart and is learning how to be mobile with it. Chloe is still recovering from the emotional trauma of the abuse, and so is cautious and quiet.
Dro is a 3 year old black Lab who loves to be loved. He is a good family dog and he loves to go for car rides.
Bosworth is a 1 year old blonde hound about 40 lbs. He loves to play and cuddle. He likes everybody and will be an excellent family or solo dog.
Shadow is a 2 year old small black female mixed dog with the perfect Love Bug personality. She is a 20-lb. lap dog and gets along well with cats.
Damian is Shadow and Bosworth's pup, along with Dewey (not pictured). They are 4 month old males who need a happy loving home.
Sassy is about 50 lbs, longer haired than her Gordon Setter mom, and we're not sure about her dad, but he might have been a German Shepard. She was born in June 2008, she is good with other dogs and kids and people. She's never been around cats. She's mostly been outside but comes in the laundry room at night and has never had an accident there. She's a very active dog, she needs some work on her leash as she likes to pull. She's very energetic and is always waiting at the back door with her tail wagging. She does like to dig. Sassy's been fixed, is up to date on all her shots and has been microchipped.
Purr Purr is a mild-tempered five year old cat. She has been spayed and is up to date on her shots. She has been an indoor-outdoor cat. She would love to sleep on your bed if you let her. She would do best as an only cat or with a male cat.
Boomer was picked up with an obviously broken leg, and taken to the shelter after a vet looked at the leg and determined that the leg could not be casted, and would need to be operated on.
Bruno & Bean - Need some good company? Our owner must work out of town from the end of May until early October. We're looking for a good, quiet home with a little access to the outdoors and a human we can love. We're both fixed. We could either come or live with you permanently, or we could work out a Kitty Time Share agreement. Our love is boundless and we'll have a summer owner and a winter owner. There's no one like us to make your house a home!
Mika is 1/2 Lab, 1/4 Wolf and 1/4 Malamute female. She is only a 1 year and 4 months old. Mika is a very sweet and loving dog. She is pretty hyper, but tries to please. She is not house-broken, and needs a fenced-in yard to run. She has never showed any aggression at any other animals or people. She is still young so she is still growing; it is best she not be around small children, since she is still a child herself.
