Name: Missy Pigge
Breed: Pit Mix
Gender: Fixed Female
Age: 6 years
Contact: (707) 822-8900
She is a pit bull cross, BUT don’t let that stop you. I adopted her out of the Humboldt Sheriffs Animal Shelter about 1 ½ years ago, as her former owner had passed away the coroner placed Missy with the sheriff. I have found that I am allergic to her and must give her up for health reasons, allergies.
She is a playful and humorous dog, and prefers to sleep most of the time. She is somewhat leashed trained and certainly house broken and has minding issues when excited.
She is 6 years old and has no health issues according to my Vet. She is a cuddlier and loves your furniture but is not destructive. She greets people with gusto, and is not aggressive with my dog. You have to be the head of the pack. If it weren’t for my health reasons and some housing issues I would keep her in a flash.

Gender: Fixed Female
Age: 4 years
Contact: (415) 424-8655
Hi! My name is Chestar, I am a German Shepherd Pit Mix very handsome and very smart. I make a good guard , I bark whenever there is anyone at the door. I do not like cats too much but I can learn to live with them if I have to. I love children, they always play fetch with me and feed me cookies. I do not like other dogs around my food, water or toys I am possessive about my belongings. I love lots of cold water unfortunately I am not much of a swimmer unless my tennis ball or fetching stick is thrown in there. I have a disability on one of my legs but it does not stop me from running very fast and jumping. I love people and they love me. However, I have separation and anxiety that can be cured if I can find the right person to work with me. I am a lover and I need someone to love me back. I eat really well and in my food I love some olive oil for my coat and sometimes a raw egg. I am a good housemate and I never poop in the house if I have an upset stomach which is never I will let you know by panting and looking at the door that is how I communicate. My current owner is great and she loves me but she cannot take care of me as she and I would like to, right now it is best for us to part ways and for me to find a new home that can give me the love, care and exercise that I need. I am a great dog, she tells me that everyday I just need a chance.

He is currently being fostered, working on his training, and is really loving doggie daycare. He can sit and lay down like a good boy. He would do really well in a home with children age 10 and above. He is fully vaccinated and neutered. A home visit and small adoption fee is required. We are currently looking for foster care for him as well as his forever home. He would do better as an only pet. He is still in his puppy stage and will be starting puppy classes on April 24th.

They are not very social at the moment with other dogs due to mainly staying on the property and staying with us during travel i use muzzles on the beach to protect them and leashes. They are not good with cats due to never being around them. They are protective of there owners once they are aware you are there parents; therefore they will bark at people that approach you unless you instruct otherwise.  They are great with kids, they have been raised around, with, and for a baby girl. They (Jah &Hendrix) were her protection love and family; we are a single mom and daughter, now struggling with domestic violence and intensely sad to say goodbye to family. I intend to write children's stories about my Princess and her faithful warrior angels Jah&Hendrix. They get very hyper which can cause them to be rough on smaller children but once settled or disciplined correctly/regularly that will stop within minutes. Hendrix the black girl is extremely happy and LOVING, hyper, and tends to want to be at eye level with you when being pet; bending down to pet her prevents her from jumping on you. Jah the brindle brother is OVERLY loving, and wants to be the man in the house for his parents. THEY REQUIRE ATTENTION OFTEN FOR THEIR SPIRIT. They are both altered and I am REQUESTING they go to the same home (unless you have a special reason and want for one only). They are potty trained however with the domestic violence incident we had to relocate without them asap. They have had dog sitters meeting with them daily (I visit with them 3-4 times a week) and they have unfortunately had to have potty pads in the home just in case.
THIS IS VERY HARD ON OUR FAMILY; WE PRAY THEY ARE YOUR WARRIOR ANGELS AS THEY HAVE BEEN FOR US

Name: Aslan
Breed: Leonberger mix
Gender: Fixed Male
Age: 2 years old
Contact: Jean 707-839-3148

ASLAN is a big, gentle, mellow, curious boy about 2 years old with a super thick golden coat.  He is a fine fellow who enjoys walks and a chance to do a little poking around.  He also loves to play!
We’re not sure what his heritage is but of his beauty there is no doubt! We're only guessing he may be part Leonberger (suggested by general appearance though too small). He weighs about 95 pounds and seems to have a medium energy level. He has a thick, 2" long coat.
In his foster home he is enjoying playing with the 45 lb female Walker Hound mix.  He seems to be interested in making doggy friends.
So far, he has met children as young as 7 years old and he is fine with the attention given; however, he is big and all over the place and doesn't seem to know how big and strong he is.  Kids need to be able to withstand his size.  Aslan likes kids; he just doesn't know he could hurt them by knocking them over or stepping on them.  Teenagers live in the foster home and he enjoys their company.
He is 'too' interested in cats and rabbits and would probably give chase if he could.  He rides very nicely and quietly in the car and seems to enjoy the experience. It looks like he enjoys going in the water. He is house-trained.  He has recently been neutered (early Feb 2013) and full effect of this will come later.
Aslan is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped; he is heartworm negative on a recent test.
If you’re looking for an easy-going but vital young boy who needs to find a human he can trust to be loving and loyal, he’s ready to meet you!  He would do best in a household where he has a chance to get regular physical exercise. To find out more about Aslan or meet him, contact Jean at 707-839-3148 or, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Gender: Fixed Female
Age: 10 years old

ADOPT SENSITIVE, SWEET, MELLOW GIRL WHITNEY

WHITNEY is a dog with a sad story to tell.   But, she is a trooper and has picked herself up by her ‘bootstraps’ and is ready for her new life in a loving home where she gets lots of attention and loving care.
Whitney is being fostered in the Eureka area, thanks to the kindness and generosity of a person who has a big, soft heart, who, when he heard of Whitney’s situation, was eager to give her a hand.
Until early February 2013, this lovely German Shepherd mix girl, who is about 10 years old, lived with her human mom and another dog in the Sacramento area.  Her human mom was not in good health for the last few years but she did the best she could for herself and her two pooches.  One recent day, when she thought she’d had enough pain and suffering, she took her own life. She and her 2 dogs were discovered a few days later.  The other dog was so frail that it was felt best to put her to sleep.  Whitney, who was dehydrated, hungry and lonely, seemed like she had what it took to come out of this on top.
Friends of the deceased woman began to try to find a good new home or foster situation for Whitney and through the internet, the person in Eureka who now has her, said he’d take her.  Another kind, concerned person drove Whitney here and she’s been in her new foster home just a week (as of Feb 10).
Whitney is settling in and is showing that she’s playful, devoted to her humans, loving, gentle, affectionate and gets along with the other 2 dogs and the cats in the foster home.
She has been seen by a vet and, except for needing pain/anti-inflammatory meds for her arthritic joint, she is in excellent health.  She is up to date on vaccinations, is house-trained, has a lovely, thick black and tan coat, is spayed and ready to give a new family or person all of her love and devotion. She weighs somewhere around 50-55 pounds and is in the process of losing a tad of weight.
Whitney likes to go on short walks, loves belly rubs and likes to play with water coming from the garden hose.  She gets along with dogs she meets when she’s out on walks.
If you’re looking for a very nice, gentle companion, who is a delight to have around, please call Matt at 707-444-0446.
Whitney will need on-going meds for pain and inflammation and there is an adoption fee, along with required reference checks and a home visit.
Whoever adopts her will never be sorry; she’s such a lovely lady!

We would love to keep him, he is a loving, smart, loyal, protective dog who is wonderful with my children. He protects them and our home.He only barks when strangers or wild animals come onto our property. I have to keep Rosco on a dog "run" chained up at this point and I feel sorry for him. He would love to be free and running. I cannot however let him loose because he will try to "herd" my neighbors horses. He would be a great cattle or "working" dog. He would love to have a job to do. He gently puts my mother in law's chickens in a circle and keeps them all gathered up.
He is super smart. GREAT home ONLY!!! with lot's of safe room to run.

Name: Hailey
Breed: English Mastiff
Gender: Fixed Female
Age: 2 years
Contact: Stacie 707-633-6106

ADOPT OUTGOING, SWEET. GENTLE BIG GIRL HAILEY

HAILEY is a sweet, playful, young lady who has been waiting for a couple years now for a home where she’s given what she needs and deserves.  She is a stunningly beautiful English Mastiff who was abandoned when her owner moved away and left her in a situation that lacked proper care and attention; when this became known to neighbors, she was taken to the County Shelter by Animal Control.  Due to all the upsets in her life, she was fearful and thus not put up for adoption.
Hailey had been neglected for some time and arrived very underweight, with a skin infection and with turned-under eyelids (entropion) which should have been surgically repaired a long time ago.
After some 6 months of foster care, Hailey has put on 30 pounds and is now a normal weight (165 lbs).  Her eye surgery has been done and her skin infection has cleared up with medication, flea prevention and a good diet.
We believe Hailey is about 2 years old and she’s just a big puppy who loves to play. Like members of her breed, she is a ‘guardy’ dog and wants to protect her premises.  She does not show aggression in this duty but she appears to be serious.  Hailey gets along very well with and enjoys the company of dogs that are not dominant or aggressive. Pushy, nippy smaller dogs irritate her and she will react.
She rides well in the car, is happy and comfortable inside the house and appears to be house-trained.  She is OK with cats but not recommended for proximity to livestock or chickens; she likes to chase them.  She loves to run at the beach or fetch sticks in the river and loves to be with her favorite humans.
If you’d like to meet Hailey and see if this English Mastiff is the dog for your family, please contact Stacie at 707-633-6106.  Hailey is available through “It’s A Dog’s Life Rescue”; there is an adoption application & fee, careful screening including a home visit.
Hailey will be adopted only to someone who can provide for her physical and emotional care.  She needs a big yard for play and to hang out in.  She needs to be an important member of the family and must be allowed in the house when her people are there. She needs high quality food and proper veterinary care.
We do not wish Hailey to be with children, dominant, pesky or aggressive dogs, livestock, chickens, or in an apartment setting, nor should she be expected to be an outdoor only guard dog.  She will guard her perimeter so is not a good idea for people who have visitors who will be put off by that behavior. Hailey is not a dog for every family but for those for whom she is a good match, she will be a wonderful companion.
Hailey is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and micro-chipped.

Name: Kylie
Breed: Black German Shepherd
Gender: Fixed female
Age: 4 years
Contact: Heather 707-845-8060

Kylie is a very sweet and loving dog. She is spayed and to my knowledge UTD on all vaccinations. She was abandoned several times in the first year of her life which has left her with several issues making her a special needs dog. She is high energy who could really use a hobby or a job. She is dog aggressive and would do well in an only dog home. She does have pretty significant separation anxiety issues. In the right home situation with someone who is not working all day I think she would do quite well. She has learned basic obedience commands and will respond to them if her energy and anxiety levels are not too high. She is good with cats but not recommended with other small animals. She is a wonderful dog that could really blossom in the right home situation. She aims to please and is a quick learner. Please contact Heather at either 845-8060 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I would really like to just see her go to a good and loving home.

Name: Cupcake
Breed: Chih-Rat Terrier
Gender: Fixed Female
Age: 3 years
Contact: Jean 707-839-3148

ADOPT HAPPY, SMALL, PERSONALITY-PLUS GIRL CUPCAKE
CUPCAKE is a peppy, perky little gal who is hoping she can find a nice person who wants to be her loyal, life-long friend.  She will be devoted to a human who can help her learn to be confident and more trusting.  She is a terrier mix (we are guessing Rat Terrier and Chihuahua), about 3 years old and weighs 15 pounds.
She came to the County Shelter obviously neglected physically and socially.  She had open sores all over her body and didn’t trust anyone she met.  Eventually, one of the staff made friends with her and found that when she feels comfortable, she is just a sweetheart who is eager to be played with, talked to and petted.  Because she needs to have time to warm up to people she doesn’t know, we took her into our foster program.
Out of the shelter, we have found that in her pretty little tri-colored, short-haired body is a lot of dog! Cupcake has revealed that she likes human company, is happy, listens well, has some of that independence typical of terriers, loves to talk (her nickname is ‘Squeeky’), is OK with cats (she avoids them), is OK with many other dogs but not eager to share toys and attention with them. She loves to play with toys and is quite the ‘fetcher’!
It is obvious that this little sweetheart just needs patience and time so she can learn to fully trust her friends.  At this point, she has made huge progress and we’re very excited about how well she’s doing.  We’re very happy we were able to save her.
Cupcake will do well in a home where she is with her people whenever possible, where she has a yard where she can safely play and hang out, a cozy bed inside, and an understanding human friend who can allow her to blossom on her own schedule.  She is not suitable for a home where small children live or visit regularly; the attention of small children will not be welcome!  She is house-trained and comfortable in the car.
If you think our very special cute little Cupcake sounds like a great companion for you, please email Stacie at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or phone Jean at 707-839-3148.  Cupcake is available through “It’s A Dog’s Life Rescue”; there is an adoption application, careful screening and an adoption fee. Cupcake is being fostered in the Eureka area.
Cupcake is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and micro-chipped.
