KIND (Kids In Nature's Defense) News, published by the National Association
for Humane and Environmental Education, has been used successfully
in schools since 1983 to help elementary-school students develop values
of kindness toward people, animals, and the Earth. It features contributions
from readers, celebrity profiles, articles, puzzles, projects, and questions
that test reading comprehension--all designed to increase students' knowledge
about animals and their habitats, encourage the use of critical-thinking
skills, and introduce students to important humane and environmental
issues. KIND News can be read and discussed in class or sent home with
students to be enjoyed by the whole family.
A Newspaper Children Want to Read!
Written in a simple, lively, and often humorous style, KIND News helps
children develop a lifetime love of reading. Articles that include
fascinating facts about sea turtles' moonlit journeys, spiders that throw
fastballs, or pets that land planes allow students to experience reading
as a pleasure, an adventure, and a chance to think, wonder, and learn.
KIND News has received numerous awards for educational and editorial excellence
and has become an established component of the reading curriculum
in thousands of elementary schools nationwide.
