TAFFY THE TORTIE FINDS A HOME
Taffy’s quintessential tortoise-shell personality made it difficult to find the right home for her. Unusually standoffish and aloof, Taffy wasn’t the typical snuggly kitty. “She’s affectionate in her own way,” says SHS office manager, Carrie Mays. “When I let her out in my office she likes to sit in my inbox and bask in the sun, and occasionally she’ll get sweet and want to rub all over me. But she doesn’t like to be picked up. I have two torties at home, so I understand her.” But not many people would. Most adopters want a docile cat that will sit on your lap and can be held, not one that butts your with her head then dashes off to hide in the corner. It takes a special person to accept such unusual feline behavior. That person is Judy Hageman. Judy is an expert on torties. She already has several at home and knows that they can be temperamental. When she first came to the SHS Pet Adoption Center she fell in love with a young tortie kitten named Holly. Learning of her unusual tolerance for torties, SHS staff introduced her to Taffy. After visiting with Taffy daily for over a week, she decided to take both kitties home! For the first time in her adult life Taffy isn’t sleeping in a cage. Although her first year of life was spent in a shelter, she now has a forever home where she can dash around to her heart’s content, and where she is loved for the true tortie she is.
