| Volunteer Spotlight: A Dog's Best Friend |
Every day, the canine residents of SHS eagerly
await the arrival of a special volunteer, Scott Wilburn,
because every day-rain or shine-Scott comes to the shelter
to walk dogs.
In 1992, Scott & his late wife adopted a Shih
Tzu named Tex (who quickly became "Bok Choy") from SHS.
Since then they rescued two more Shih Tzus from other
California rescues, including Scott's current companion,
Gizmo, pal to his Sheltie, Sunny. Other pets in the Wilburn
household include a desert tortoise named Clompalong, a
canary named Woodstock, and an Axolotl named Creech.
When asked what brought Scott to becoming a
volunteer at SHS he said, "Simply my love of animals and the
desire to give to the community. |
|
I particularly enjoy
exercising, socializing and training the dogs at the
shelter. Dr. (Michelle) Stone provides valuable tips and
hands-on training, which not only helps to make these dogs
desirable pets, but is beneficial with mine at home as well.
"It's great to see how proper training can quickly change a
dog's behavior."
In Scott's spare time he enjoys camping with his
dogs. Thanks for all your hard work, Scott! |
