Private Adoptions
The Sequoia Humane Society (SHS) aims to help find permanent, loving homes for all adoptable animals. Due to space limitations, we cannot admit every animal looking for a new home into our shelter. We have therefore reserved a space on our website to help pet owners distribute information about animals they need to re-home. We also suggest that you sign up for the Friends for Life Animal Rescue "Matchmaker" program, and post fliers in vet offices, pet stores and around your neighborhood.
If you are looking to rehome a pet, please send an e-mail to humane@sequoiahumane.org, including:
- Pet's Name
- Breed
- Gender
- Age
- Characteristics: including - general temperament, good with other animals (dogs, cats) &/or people/kids, house/litter-trained, other personal habits
- A Contact number
Please attach a photo of your pet to the e-mail. Your listing will be posted for 90 days (please notify us if the animal is adopted earlier).
*Disclaimer: The Sequoia Humane Society does not guarantee the health or temperament of any private adoption animal listed on its website. Private adoption agreements are between the animal's original guardian and the individual looking to adopt the animal. All parties using this website agree to release SHS from any responsibility related to the private adoption process.
All cats and dogs posted for private adoption must be spayed/neutered
Boomer was picked up with an obviously broken leg, and taken to the shelter after a vet looked at the leg and determined that the leg could not be casted, and would need to be operated on.
A collaborative effort between the Humboldt County Animal Services Shelter, BONES, the Sequoia Humane Society, Friends for Life, a generous, discount from the vet, as well as donations from the community, made it possible for Boomer to leave the shelter, get treatment for his leg, get neutered and get up to date on shots.
When the vet tried to pin the leg, he found the injury was actually about three weeks old. Because of the age of the injury, there was not choice but to amputate Boomer's leg.
Boomer has adjusted quite well to having only three legs to tool around on, and loves to play. He is still learning not to get tangled in his leash and fall over, but other than that he is a very fun loving puppy who is looking for a great home to spend the rest of his life in.
Boomer is a neutered 5 month old male, who is up to date on shots. Boomer went to the pet fair at the Farm Store and met many dogs and people of all sizes and loved them all. He is a totally solid dog! Even when Boomer has been in pain, he continues to be very loving and forgiving - this very special boy needs an equally special home!

Huckleberry Needs a Home!!!
He is a loving dog who needs a loving home.
Huckleberry is a beautifully spirited two and half year old pure bred black lab full of love and generous energy. He is a great ball player, loves hiking, camping & backpacking and is used to living both inside & outside, sleeping inside. He is adventurous and has gone on many road trips, been on a few back country snowboard trips, has climbed at least six 12,000 foot mountains around the west, carries his own pack, and is trained to ride on a leash next to a bicycle. He has been living on the Salmon River in Somes Bar, CA for the last six months and loves to go play by the water. He is versatile and has also spent a year and a half living as an indoor dog. He sure does love to get outside, rain or shine!
He needs a very loving companion who can provide a lot of attention mixed with gentle dominance and an aptitude for training a dog who sometimes has a mind of his own. He gets along well with most dogs and is protective of his caretaker around some male dogs.
I would love to find him an adventurous companion and an outdoor home for him in the Humboldt Bay/Klamath/Salmon/Trinity/Shasta area. Please let me know if you or someone you know is interested in meeting Huckleberry.
He is a loving dog who needs a loving home.
You can reach his present companion/brother, Clayton Barker at townofclay@gmail.com or 530.469.3263 (H) or 530.627.3291 (W)

Nugget is a 33 pound, 9 year old border collie/terrier mix. Nugget's
person is forced to give him up do to financial difficulties and living
conditions. Nugget is a special needs dog recently diagnosed with
diabetes. He also has some long standing hip issues. Despite his
medical issues Nugget has a great personality and happy disposition.
Nugget is neutered, housebroken, and good with dogs and cats. His ideal
new home would be one where he would live INDOORS with a small dog
and/or cat friend and, where he can get the medical treatment he needs
and the attention he craves.

Tara needs a new home ASAP
I was told to email a picture and some info about our dog Tara to put up on your website. She has been on the SHS waiting list since October '06 and we are still desperatly trying to find her a home. She is aprox. 2.5 years old, female housebroken, spaid, and friendly. She appears to be a german shepard mix and is a slender, medium sized dog with long legs. She is a rescue dog from the New Orleans SPCA, unforuntaly she does not get along with our female Pit and they must be kept seperate at all times. We just don't have the facilities to do this properly and Tara has been confined to the backyard while we have been trying to re-home her.
Please contact me with any interest, we really need to find her a new home ASAP

Sampson
Lab/Rot mix, aprox 1 year old
Last November Sampson showed up on our porch in Willow Creek. Our cabin there is shared and the owner no longer wants him there. We also have a place on the coast but already have a dog and a cat on the lease and the land lord won't let us add Sampson on. We truley do not want to get rid of him; he is extremely loyal and friendly. He loves other dogs and cats, and is especially good with children (we have a 2 year old that adores him). He is house broken and up to date on his shots.

Fluffy is a 6yr old female longhair. Strictly indoor kitty and litter box trained. She needs a lap to sit on and a hand to pet. She is very affectionate and needs lots of love. Fluffy will tolerate other cats and dogs if she can have a place to hide and be alone. Also, she prefers to be the center of attention.
I got her from the animal shelter when she was 3. I have in the last year gotten pregnant and had a baby. All this has been very upsetting to Fluffy and she is no longer happy here with us and we don't like seeing her so upset.

Hi, we are looking for a new home for our dog, Moose. He is a male lab mix. His date of birth is 4/14/05, so he is almost three years old. He has been fixed. He is house trained, and before our move to Humboldt Co. he lived in the house with us. He sleeps in our garage at night. He has a very small yard, and we are hoping to find a new home for him that has lots of room for him to run as he was able to do before our move.
Moose is a great dog. He is very timid around new people and animals. He is not aggressive towards other animals, but he has chased after cats at times in the past. Because he is timid around new people we would like work with whoever can offer him a good home to ensure that it is the right fit for Moose and his new owners.
We love Moose very much; we just don't have the room and time to give him the attention he deserves.

Hannah is one-half walker and one-half plot hound dog. She was born on Jan. 17, 2007. She is not yet spayed but complete with all her vaccinations. Since she is an active dog, she needs to be able to run outside. Having a real good nose, she comes from a long line of hunting dogs. If you would like to see her, please call Amy at 707-633-5031 or 707-362-0405.

There are two male puppies in need of good home ~German Shepard and Timber wolf mix (less than 25% Timber wolf.) They are about 10 months old. These dogs really aim to please and seem to be very trainable. They are very well tempered lovable dogs and respond to simple commands, but they do bark when someone is coming to the door. I have a little boy, and they are very loving toward him; I have never seen them act violent toward anyone. Both males are brothers named Marley and Houdini. They are not yet neutered and still in need of shots (one dog has had the first set of shots, but still needs second set and rabies.) Currently, I am waiting for my house to close and staying with a friend. Unfortunately, I have no room to keep them. They are in need of a good home as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Shiloh
