Private Adoptions
The Sequoia Humane Society (SHS) aims to help find permanent, loving homes for all adoptable animals. Due to space limitations, we cannot admit every animal looking for a new home into our shelter. We have therefore reserved a space on our website to help pet owners distribute information about animals they need to re-home. We also suggest that you sign up for the Friends for Life Animal Rescue "Matchmaker" program, and post fliers in vet offices, pet stores and around your neighborhood.

If you are looking to rehome a pet, please send an e-mail to humane@sequoiahumane.org, including:
      - Pet's Name
      - Breed
      - Gender
      - Age
      - Characteristics: including - general temperament, good with other animals (dogs, cats) &/or people/kids, house/litter-trained, other personal habits
      - A Contact number
Please attach a photo of your pet to the e-mail. Your listing will be posted for 90 days (please notify us if the animal is adopted earlier).

*Disclaimer: The Sequoia Humane Society does not guarantee the health or temperament of any private adoption animal listed on its website. Private adoption agreements are between the animal's original guardian and the individual looking to adopt the animal. All parties using this website agree to release SHS from any responsibility related to the private adoption process.

All cats and dogs posted for private adoption must be spayed/neutered

Boomer Boomer was picked up with an obviously broken leg, and taken to the shelter after a vet looked at the leg and determined that the leg could not be casted, and would need to be operated on.

A collaborative effort between the Humboldt County Animal Services Shelter, BONES, the Sequoia Humane Society, Friends for Life, a generous, discount from the vet, as well as donations from the community, made it possible for Boomer to leave the shelter, get treatment for his leg, get neutered and get up to date on shots.

When the vet tried to pin the leg, he found the injury was actually about three weeks old. Because of the age of the injury, there was not choice but to amputate Boomer's leg.

Boomer has adjusted quite well to having only three legs to tool around on, and loves to play. He is still learning not to get tangled in his leash and fall over, but other than that he is a very fun loving puppy who is looking for a great home to spend the rest of his life in.

Boomer is a neutered 5 month old male, who is up to date on shots. Boomer went to the pet fair at the Farm Store and met many dogs and people of all sizes and loved them all. He is a totally solid dog! Even when Boomer has been in pain, he continues to be very loving and forgiving - this very special boy needs an equally special home!

Charlie Charlie is a 3 year old neutered male golden retriever/collie mix and weighs 45 lbs. He has been raised with kids, cats and lots of visitors. He is unusually friendly and people oriented, also smarter than most dogs. His owner was in a recent accident and is no longer home to care for him. Charlie likes to visit if he gets lonely so he needs someone who can be with him much of the time or has a secure area for him when he is left alone. This is the sweetest, smartest and friendliest dog. He is content just to sit beside your chair in the evening, walk or run and play with you anytime. He is super with kids and teens but is calm enough for older owners also. Charlie has a special spirit, already rescued once as an abandoned puppy off the Trinity River bar. He has grown into a loving companion. He has much to give you, please call if you are curious about him. Contact: Adoption Alliance/Project Snuggle 707-726-9391 or the cell number 496-4990. Ask for Sherill.

Bahgwan "This is the story from the owner of Bahgwan, a five year old Great Pyrenees, male neutered, and current on shots.

Bahgwan is a 5-year old Great Pyrenes, male neutered, and current on shots. He is very sweet dog with special needs. Last July, a wire got wrapped tightly around Bahgwan's right rear ankle cutting off the circulation. Our Vet decided to amputate the toes in order to save the leg. So we have been caring for the wound ever since. We live in a very small cabin with our two kids and are unable to have Bahgwan in our house. Therefore, we struggled to keep his bandage dry. As we also live on top of a very steep mountain, we are unable to take him for walks because the steep, rocky terrain only damages his foot more.

Due to these circumstances we have come to the difficult decision that we need to find a new home for Bahgwan in order for his needs to be met. We feel that Bahgwan needs a home with a flat fenced yard and would do really well being a house dog. He needs a special person with lots of love and time to give. He is a VERY loving, gentle dog good with children and other dogs, and an excellent patient who has never complained about his situation.

If you would like to talk to me abut Bahgwan, please call me at (707) 499-4441.

Thank you for caring, Jennifer Graeff.

If anyone knows of a potential home for Bahgwan, you can also reply by e-mail (petram_1@yahoo.com) to me, I can forward the info the Jennifer.

Larry Our cat is named Larry. He is a gray mixed cat who is 7 years old. He has always been strictly an indoor cat. He is neutered and house trained. He is very loveable. He would sit next to you and put his head on your arm. He has been to the veterinarian and was given a clean bill of health. He needs a quiet, loving home without small children and no dogs. He used to live with his brother until his brother died last year of liver disease (his brother was the runt of the litter). Please help us find a loving home for him.
