Private Adoptions

The Sequoia Humane Society (SHS) aims to help find permanent, loving homes for all adoptable animals. Due to space limitations, we cannot admit every animal looking for a new home into our shelter. We have therefore reserved a space on our website to help pet owners distribute information about animals they need to re-home. We also suggest that you sign up for the Friends for Life Animal Rescue "Matchmaker" program, and post fliers in vet offices, pet stores and around your neighborhood.

If you are looking to rehome a pet, please send an e-mail to humane@sequoiahumane.org, including:

      - Pet's Name
      - Breed
      - Gender
      - Age
      - A Contact Number
      - Characteristics: Including - general temperament, good with other animals (dogs, cats) &/or people/kids, house/litter-trained, other personal habits

Please attach a photo of your pet to the e-mail. Your listing will be posted for 90 days (please notify us if the animal is adopted earlier).

Disclaimer: The Sequoia Humane Society does not guarantee the health or temperament of any private adoption animal listed on its website. Private adoption agreements are between the animal's original guardian and the individual looking to adopt the animal. All parties using this website agree to release SHS from any responsibility related to the private adoption process.

All cats and dogs posted for private adoption must be spayed/neutered

Zora Zora has been characterized by her Del Norte County Shelter caretaker as "the sweetest dog there is!" She is medium sized and looking for a nice family to lavish love on her. We believe she is a Chow mix, about 7 years old. Stocky and short, she could trim down a bit and would weigh some 50 pounds at normal weight. Looking like a teddy bear, Zora is friendly, happy, easy going, quiet and gentle.

She gets along with other dogs although she wants them to respect her. A home without kitties is best as she's intensely interested in pursuing them. She was taken from the Del Norte County Shelter in order to save her life, and she is in foster care in Eureka. Zora loves to go out on walks and explore. She is crate trained. Her hips are a bit stiff and she will need her teeth cleaned. Otherwise, she is in great health, perky and wanting to be part of leisurely activities. She is a perfect companion for people who are home a lot and who live a moderately active life.

To meet Zora, contact Jean at 707-839-3148. Adoption application approval and fee will be required. Zora is up to date with routine shots, house trained and spayed.

Peanut Peanut is a loving, gentle, loyal lab mix girl who is a real find for someone who wants a devoted companion who's easy to have around. She has given so much more than she has received in her 6 years of life, and deserves someone who will dote on her and enjoy her love. Peanut is a happy girl who just wants to be with her humans. She is in excellent health.

She has lived all her life in Del Norte County where she has had at least 2 homes. In neither was she cared for like she should have been. Yet she remained loyal to her humans, waiting out in the road for long hours for them to come home. Peanut is an easy going love bug who longs for the warmth and security of a home with humans who treasure her. She gets along with other dogs but really prefers human friends. She was taken from the Del Norte County Shelter in order to save her life and is in foster care in Arcata.

To meet Peanut, contact Jean at 707-839-3148. Adoption application approval and fee will be required. Peanut is up to date with routine shots, house trained and spayed.

Chloe Chloe is a precious little 4 year old long haired Chihuahua mix. Chloe has special needs, resulting from a brutal kick in the back which she endured around New Years. She was rescued from an abusive home and signed over to K9-Angels and has been under the care of a veterinarian. Her prognosis is bright, she has been fitted with a little wheel-chair cart and is learning how to be mobile with it. Chloe is still recovering from the emotional trauma of the abuse, and so is cautious and quiet.

In her forever home, I seek for her a guardian who will patiently bond with Chloe, perhaps carry her around in a little doggie tote while her trust in people is restored by caregivers, as well as help her adapt to the use of the wheel chair cart so she can move around on her own once again. As is true of all animals, Chloe will be equal parts responsibility and utter joy!

K-9 Angels requests a modest adoption fee. If any of you is inclined to give this sweet, precious little girl a second chance at life, please contact Gail at 707-496-4589 or k9angels7@yahoo.com

Dro Dro is a 3 year old black Lab who loves to be loved. He is a good family dog and he loves to go for car rides.

Bosworth Bosworth is a 1 year old blonde hound about 40 lbs. He loves to play and cuddle. He likes everybody and will be an excellent family or solo dog.

Damian Damian is Shadow and Bosworth's pup, along with Dewey (not pictured). They are 4 month old males who need a happy loving home.

My circumstances are such that in order to stay in my current living situation, I need to find a good home for all these wonderful pets. Please contact me at 707-986-9823 and ask for Marilyn or Lance. If not home, please leave a message and I'll call you back.

Sassy & Curly Sassy is about 50 lbs, longer haired than her Gordon Setter mom, and we're not sure about her dad, but he might have been a German Shepard. She was born in June 2008, she is good with other dogs and kids and people. She's never been around cats. She's mostly been outside but comes in the laundry room at night and has never had an accident there. She's a very active dog, she needs some work on her leash as she likes to pull. She's very energetic and is always waiting at the back door with her tail wagging. She does like to dig. Sassy's been fixed, is up to date on all her shots and has been microchipped.

Curly is Sassy's sister but she doesn't look like it! She is 40 lbs, has short hair, and when she was born her tail was crooked -- it almost looks like it's been broken, but it hasn't, it's fine. She is good with other larger dogs but might not be trustworthy around little dogs as she pounces when she plays and doesn't seem to know her boundaries. She probably wouldn't hurt cats but would likely chase them. She is even more energetic than Sassy, she loves to play tetherball, she can jump high and needs a tall fence and some work learning to stay off people, as well as work on the leash. She is also microchipped and up to date on shots.

I would love to see them go together just because it is hard enough for me to let them go. I think they would be fine, they just need someone who has more time for them than I can give.

Please call or email Katey at 707-496-5289 or kateyabaker@yahoo.com. Thank you!

Xenia and Chris Woods, (707) 441-9167. Thank you!

Boomer Boomer was picked up with an obviously broken leg, and taken to the shelter after a vet looked at the leg and determined that the leg could not be casted, and would need to be operated on.

A collaborative effort between the Humboldt County Animal Services Shelter, BONES, the Sequoia Humane Society, Friends for Life, a generous, discount from the vet, as well as donations from the community, made it possible for Boomer to leave the shelter, get treatment for his leg, get neutered and get up to date on shots.

When the vet tried to pin the leg, he found the injury was actually about three weeks old. Because of the age of the injury, there was not choice but to amputate Boomer's leg.

Boomer has adjusted quite well to having only three legs to tool around on, and loves to play. He is still learning not to get tangled in his leash and fall over, but other than that he is a very fun loving puppy who is looking for a great home to spend the rest of his life in.

Boomer is a neutered 5 month old male, who is up to date on shots. Boomer went to the pet fair at the Farm Store and met many dogs and people of all sizes and loved them all. He is a totally solid dog! Even when Boomer has been in pain, he continues to be very loving and forgiving - this very special boy needs an equally special home!

For more information, please call Molly at (707) 768-3054 or e-mail mlmomocook@aol.com or Tammy at (707) 499-9760 or e-mail tamarafalor@yahoo.com.

Bean & Bruno Need some good company? Our owner must work out of town from the end of May until early October. We're looking for a good, quiet home with a little access to the outdoors and a human we can love. We're both fixed. We could either come or live with you permanently, or we could work out a Kitty Time Share agreement. Our love is boundless and we'll have a summer owner and a winter owner. There's no one like us to make your house a home!

Yours Sincerely,

Bruno (8-yr. old female - in the tux) and Bean (3-yr. old male). Call (707) 822-0240.

Mika Mika is 1/2 Lab, 1/4 Wolf and 1/4 Malamute female. She is only a 1 year and 4 months old. Mika is a very sweet and loving dog. She is pretty hyper, but tries to please. She is not house-broken, and needs a fenced-in yard to run. She has never showed any aggression at any other animals or people. She is still young so she is still growing; it is best she not be around small children, since she is still a child herself.

Mika needs a loving home with a lot of room and no available livestock. She has never attacked any, but she loves to run with them so she scares them. She is still young enough to train, but I just never have the time for her.

Mika has a few quirks, she loves to sit in her dog food so other animals can't eat it. She also loves to sit on feet, and piddles if she gets too excited around new people. I have had her since she was a puppy, but she needs a good home with someone to give her lots of love and attention.

If you are interested in Mika please call Meagan at either home (707)786-9217 or cell (707) 218-5165. Thank you.
